Breakfast and Dining

We strive for the highest quality in the food and drink provided. We use local suppliers wherever we can to control quality and to support the community. If there is something you want, ask us and we will do our best to provide it. Our standard is a full cooked English breakfast, but continental breakfasts can also be provided.

Breakfast is served in the Suite’s private living room. Guests particularly enjoy dining in their bedclothes, wrapped up in one of our warm bathrobes.

By arrangement, we also prepare evening meals. This can either be in the intimate surroundings of your living room, or for the more formal occasion, your meal can be served in the grand dining hall, complete with a large open log fire.

Our Menus

Breakfast:
Eggs
These are free range from our own hens. You may see them wandering about in the garden.

Butter
This is farm produced whey butter from J.H.Warham, The Tithe Barn, Whitchurch.

Bacon, sausages, lambs kidneys
These are produced at Castlemoor Farm in the Corve Dale south of Wenlock Edge. The pigs are all outdoor reared (take care getting out of the car) and are a Gloucester Old Spot, Landrace cross.

Coffee
We buy this from Aroma Coffee in Shrewsbury since we know they roast the beans themselves to ensure freshness. We are currently using Honduras beans for breakfast, but can obtain other varieties to order with notice.

Dinner:
We have no set evening menu, and we like to select dishes according to the seasons. We will be happy to discuss your evening menu prior to your stay and a selection of dishes we particularly recommend are below.

All evening meals are served with wine from the family wine business, Old House Wines. We will be delighted to discuss the suitability of wines for particular foods. We specialise in the import of South African and Australian wines.

Fish
Smoked salmon from Bing’s Heath Smokery, near Shawbury. This has a dryer less oily texture than most commercially available smoked salmon. They also produce interesting smoked duck.

Soup
All soups are home made to order. The range depends on availability of local ingredients.

Game
Bought from the local market in Shrewsbury, when in season we have typically available Pheasant, Mallard, Teal, Wood Pigeon and Rabbit.

Poultry
Free range chicken and free range duck usually available. We normally present the duck slow roasted with a crisp skin.

Beef, lamb, pork and ham
This is all supplied from Castlemoor Farm and is of the highest quality. Since all our food is prepared to order we can provide dishes that are difficult for restaurants that do not have a carvery, such as slow roasted lamb or brisket of beef.

Pies
We can provide a full range of traditional pies made by Ryans, in Much Wenlock. They are renowned for making the best cold Pork Pies in Shropshire, but their hot pies, such as steak & kidney or venison and red wine are of equal quality.

Desserts
A range of home made desserts hot from the oven are available such as Tarte aux Fruits or Ring pudding with Crème Anglaise. A cold alternative might be home made trifle with syllabub topping.

Cheeses
A variety of top quality cheeses sourced from Appleyards in Shrewsbury is available. If you have a particular favourite we will try to obtain it.

Chocolates
Our chocolates are hand made, normally from Aroma who provide our coffee.

Costs:
Breakfast is included in the cost of accommodation.

Dinner is usually priced at £25 per person and will be confirmed with you when finalising the menu.
